MELAKA, WORLD HERITAGE CITY, UNESCO – EVERLASTING LIVING HERITAGE

Today I happened to be around in town center nearby Stadhuys, noticed a lot of foreign as well as ASEAN tourists visiting our famous heritage monuments and buildings. At that moment, i kinda proud of my home state.

Then I noticed the one signboard reads as follows: Melaka ,The UNESCO’s World Heritage City!  The sense of patriotism and Love for this country, this state, have further fuelled my LOVE for Melaka!

On 7th. July 2008, Melaka and Georgetown have been listed in the UNESCO World Heritage Cities under “Historic Cities in the Straits of Malacca” . This was announced in Quebec, Canada after the UNESCO Heritage Meeting.

Shown here is the announcement by UNESCO:

And the prized items we have are :

And not in the picture above is another historical relic, war-torn building like shown in this following pic:

Looks familiar to you? Yes, this is the famous abandoned building standing right in the vicinity of the Melaka Historical site since the 90s. This building has simply shamed us as the Malaccans! Yet, the government is doing nothing! KNS betul betul!!!

Pls see for yourself how near is the location of this building to the aforementioned historical buildings.

See the location of this building (black mark sketch) and the Stadhuys! pretty near by walking.

While the State government is willing to spend millions on the river beautification, shopping malls and hotel construction, nobody is paying attention to this EYE-SORE in the heart of the city whereby millions of tourists will surely ask what this building is? Why abandoned like that? FYI, another big project (the river front resort) is under construction at the moment.mind you!

While i’d love to see all these new and attractive landmarks mushrooming in our city, i do hope the maintenance works must be properly drawn out by the City hall to ensure all old, unwanted buildings should be torn down or used for other purposes. If it is the developer fault, they should be asked to take it down.

Another building is also left almost vacant, with only some minor tenants: The former Senyum Plaza.

If these remaining tenants also opt out from this building, eventually we’d see another building left vacant for years.

I notice our government is famous for introducing something good for its city and people, just like this:

The RED double decker for hopping on and off in melaka! for tourist use primarily.

BUT then we don’t know how to manage it! Why do i say that?

Well, barely less than a year after its launch, today you can see most of the riders in this nicknamed Panorama bus are the locals (like Ah pek, ah seng, auntie, ah boy & ah Lian) who r using it as a public transport, (e.g. like no.19 when i used it to go home in my childhood)!!! Where are the tourists? Why dont they use this service? What’s wrong with that?

On the other hand, the real public transportation has not improved much till today:

To Datuk bandar En. Yusof Bin Jantan , Chief Minister YAB Ali Rustam, Governor YAB Khalil Yaccob:

Pls consider my pain points above. Don’t only play golf, talk kok,  crazy for UMNO deputy president post, watch movies alone in MBO and loitering in the city in your official car with police escorts with the Pee Pu, Pee Pu siren outside my house! !
