Guys, do you shop at Tesco? I do…..But do you think they offer the cheapest prices? If you happen to read the Star today then probably you should have seen these full page advertisements, 3 pages back to back:
1st Wow:

Giant is 28% cheaper!
2nd Wow:

Even Cold Storage is cheaper @ 18%
3rd Wow:

Wow! Even Guardian is cheaper at 21%
Are these findings correct? For you to find out more…..
What surprises me why are these 3 companies made comparison to Tesco at the same day and time? After a brief check, all these 3-Giant,Cold Storage and Guardian are owned by the same company-The Diary Farm International.Besides these 3, they operate many more familiar retail businesses ,see following:

Others brands under Dairy Farm International

Ooops, just now it’s my Google Chrome problem, the page was rendered wrongly. Now it’s ok already.
TK,
I do my shopping in Tesco, nearly every Saturday morning, simply because my mum is the fans of Tesco (perhaps). In my assumption, I really assumed Tesco really is the cheaper if compare with other super market, in fact, I m not really go to compare thier prices instead.
But for me , as the smart consumer, they are not suppose to compare the price this way, below are few of my personal views,
1,) For me, If let said I would like to buy sunsilk syampoo, since I m in tesco, definitely I will not purposely drive to Guardian and buy it, instead I will just grab in in tesco even I know the price are slightly more expensive then Guardian, with RM 1.50 cheaper, is it worth for me to drive out to guardian to jsut buy s sunsilk syampoo? How much petrol charge will cost me? How much time I need to spend on traffic? How much time I need to explore myself under the sun? Maybe I need to pay parking to buy it, if all add up together, maybe it cost me more than RM1.5,now I assumed I m in Melaka, how about if in KL, JB? For me its totally not worth to do so, unless the guardian shop is just right beside Tesco and can be reached within walking distance. Than this is no discussion. TK, will you purposely drive to Guardian just to buy a sunsilk.
2,) Tesco, Giant, Mydin, Cold Storage and Carefour, for me is the places to give more convenience to those housewife who are working as manager or director but still would like to prepare dinner for family, by the time after thier work, they can do thier shopping to buy some vege or fish to prepare a delicious dinner for a lovely family when the wet markets are closed, definitely its not the place to buy syampoo or those NOT urgent house hold items. Its will definitely cost us more due to conveniences.
Above advertisment, for my personal view it being make used by some other competitor to attacked each other. For me, especially Giant,Cold Storage and Guardian are owned by the same company-The Diary Farm International.
Last point, which make me cant understand, maybe you can clear my doubt, since Giant,Cold Storage and Guardian are owned by The Diary Farm International, why dun they sell all the product in JUST Giant, or Cold Storage, or guardian? This is impossible….
TK, Let me bet you if you go to Giant you will NOT get a sunsilk syampoo at RM7.5 as selling in Guardian, this is all tactic play by them…. trust me….
Br,
RG
tks for lengthy comments, guess will need some time to go thru…but i also dont go to the extend to travel farther just to get a little bit more discount…tut tut….these ppl r.
TK,
Welcomed, important thing to compare and get the result immediately is you just need to go to Giant to find out the price of Sunsilk shampoo is it similar to Guardian, for me since both of them are owned by The Diary Farm International, the price must be the same, else its the biz strategy apply by them.
Just a simple test.
Well, are those comparison of lower prices correct?
1) the newspapers are printed around 3am in the morning SO it is IMPOSSIBLE for GIANT and co to get TODAY’s prices.
2) these kind of “surveys” are almost always skewed to the company’s benefit.
3) if you are a truly smart buyer, you do your own research and buy what is on sale only. team up with friends/neighbours/relatives to go to different shops to buy those sale items only
btw, i have bought 1 type of item from the cheapest supermarket and ignore the rest of the items. know what you want to buy and pay what you think it should be worth.
