Our lunch @ the desert restaurant in Melaka!

At first glance, most likely you won’t be interested to dine in this stall as it is very old looking , not air-conditioned, in fact run down with dilapidated zinc roof & worse still its surroundings is just a big pebbled parking lot and no trees around it. Hence, the place is very hot and stuffy. Surprisingly it is there for more than 3 decades!!

So, why do you think this restaurant is worth mentioning by me? Reason is simple, the food is lovely to me till has become one of my usual lunch spots with RG and QCH.

The dish varieties though is not as  many as offered by other restaurants in town, but good enough to attract our attention.

One of the famous dishes is the steamy hot porridge:

First is the porridge which is generously filled with century egg, pig stomachs, dried squid & lean meat, thus not surprisingly deemed a signature dish of this food stall. The porridge is very thick and smooth but unfortunately not my cup of tea as a lunch dish. It is a.k.a the boat porridge of Melaka. (the famous porridge in HK served on fishing boats in the olden days).

Next dish we had was the barbecued “char siew” pork, not bad too though not as good as the earlier one i mentioned in my earlier blog post.

To complement with the pork, we ordered for a plate of the oyster sourced spinach:

What else do we have? When there is pork, there must be chicken too! :)   Hence, we ordered one plate of steamed chicken:

Last dish we had was the creme de la creme from this stall-the fried prawn dumpling.

In each dumpling, there is one full prawn the size of my index finger!!!

There is no mixture with ground meat or vegetable that you see in the usual dumpling. It’s completely just fresh prawn. The prawn meat is sweet and simply delicious. I must admit this is my favorite dish in this stall which i can’t go without it when dining here. You can actually buy frozen ones from the stall and each is selling at 80 cts, quite expensive as i thought.

Well, these were dishes for our lunch on that day. Wait…forgot that we also had the fried rice as the last dish:

And this is the complete dishes of the day:

6 dishes lunch, in fact a gastronomic one!

And 5 of us had a wonderful lunch on that day except for the scorching sun and stuffy environment! My advice is if you decide to go there, please order for iced drinks and bring along tissues as they don’t provide or sell there. Really century old business model! @#$%^&*()

We had a chat with the founder shown in above photo, giving our suggestions to refurbish the stall as well as air-conditioned it to attract more lunch goers like us. He told us that they are moving out by early or mid of next year to give way to other development projects. Rumour says that a big amusement park will be setting up at the land by next year, which make sense to me as the place was just beside the beautified Melaka river bank.

So. if you feel like eating the prawn dumpling, pls go before it moves out next year. The new location will be in the vicinity of Semabok area.
