Mooncake Incident! How I exhanged one with 5 mooncakes??

Next week, Oct 3rd we will be celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival, an annual celebration of Unity and Togetherness dating back more than 3,000 years.

The Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival is not only a time for moon gazing and romantic lantern walks. It is also a time to indulge in the decadent sweetness of the mooncake. Only available between July and September, these fat, round pastries are filled to the brim with dense delicious fillings. Such is their richness that diners are only able to consume small wedges of these cakes at one time.

The prevalent style of mooncake in the market today is of Cantonese origin with the slightly chewy pastry covering. This is because most of the Chinese immigrants had come from the southern part of China, like Guandong and the Fuzian province, hence the style of baking,

Mouth-watering varieties: From the traditional to the novel, there are now so many types of mooncakes.

I also like eating this delicacy and every year i will buy as early as in Aug. Last week, i bought one box of Tai Thong mooncakes with different flavours. In fact it was my first time for this brand.:

After a week, today i was about to eat the last piece ( a box comes with 4 pieces) but to my horror when i open up the last one:

can u see the white spots?

Whitish fungus starts to grow on this piece of moon cake

OMG!!! upon a closer look, I was infuriated as how a nicely packed mooncake can be outgrown with fungus, furthermore it was dessicated! !@#$%^&* :(

I then checked on the expiry date thinking it might be expired already but it wasn’t:

The expiry date is still not reached yet....

Immediately, I brought this piece and its box back to the authorised seller and asked for replacement:

When the promoter saw this fungus mooncake, she apologised to me and exchanged with a fresh one. I guessed most of you will happily walk away with this replacement but I was not done.

I told the promoter all 4 pieces were rotten too but i threw away the other 3 pieces because the fungus was simply too horrible till i dare not bring along. With some angry face expression, the promoter looked further sorry for my encounter. At the end, instead of one replacement, she gave me another 4 fresh sets of different flavoured mooncakes. Here is it:

At the end, I got 5 new sets

Happily, I walked away with the 5 moon cakes after that.Of course, i thanked the promoter for her prompt action and good manners.!

One spoilt mooncake exchanged with 5 fresh ones!!! I have a memorable and wonderful Mooncake festival this year!!! :)
